The use of local and renewable energy resources in our country continues to grow. Biomass, as well as thermal, wind, solar, and hydro power plants play a major role in reducing the current deficit in energy production.
Investments are continuing at a fast pace thanks to the incentives provided for biomass power plant projects. Incentives offered based on localization rates have increased, and we thus contribute to the rate of locality by providing our domestic goods certificates. Start-up burners and system equipment working with fuels such as natural gas, light oil, heavy oil, biogas are specially designed and provided for the purpose of removing the main fuel to the combustion temperature in biomass power plant boilers. Ecostar was chosen for the 40 MWe Karaman biomass power plant and the 13.5 MWe Malatya biomass power plant projects in 2021, and an agreement was signed.
Apart from lowering the storage, operating, and maintenance expenses of power plants, conversion projects from liquid fuel (light and heavy oil) to natural gas in thermal power plant start-up burners also improve emission values with ecologically favorable goods. Ecostar was preferred for the Yatagan Thermal Power Plant natural gas conversion project in the fourth quarter of 2020, and an agreement was signed. To utilize low-calorie coal in the Mugla-Yatagan lignite basin and meet the needs of the national energy system, The power plant has a total installed capacity of 630 M. We will replace 18 start-up burners, each with 28 MW of thermal power, from heavy oil by duo burners with natural gas and diesel fuel.
The products we use in biomass and thermal power plant projects are designed specifically for the project and the requirements of the process. Our R&D engineers design the burners using CFD programs.
Two types of steam boilers, fluidized bed and grate boilers, are used in biomass plants. Start-up burners used in fluidized bed boilers provide the necessary air to the boiler by providing air passage through the heating process, and in this way, the nozzle and diffuser parts of the burner are retracted in order not to be damaged by the radiation heat.
The first ignition in grate boilers is carried out by the primitive method of manual ignition with external burners. In some projects, the entry point is closed by manually removing it based on ignition with burners. Thanks to the system we, as Ecostar, have developed specifically for grate boilers, the burner automatically retracting itself as a result of ignition, and again, the refractory cover is closed automatically and the burner's contact with the combustion chamber is cut off.
Thermal power plant start-up burners are designed to operate at high natural gas pressure due to their large capacities, and the burner lance, nozzle, and diffuser parts are automatically retracted in order not to be damaged by the radiation heat. All design studies are carried out taking into account the high efficiency, low emission values, and long service life of the burners.
With the experience of our contracted know-how, as Ecostar, we are able to carry out all mechanical, construction, electrical, and automation operations on a turnkey basis. The details of these projects are carried out through the engineering, project design, design, supply, manufacturing, assembly, testing and commissioning phases.
We believe that we entered 2021 at a fast pace and will continue to do so in the remaining period. We predict that investments will continue with renewable energy incentives and energy-saving projects.
The most common problem in the market is to award projects to foreign companies and then, bring all the products and equipment from abroad and thus not using domestic products. There are many companies in our country that have developed themselves in their field. We think that a certain ratio should be set in the projects to create an obligation for domestic product use. In this way, the domestic product use rate can be increased and companies can improve themselves.
The disruptions in the foreign-dependent supply chain, which we encountered as a result of the pandemic period, showed the need for us, the domestic producers. In order to meet this need, it is our short-term goal to meet the demands in the domestic market and increase our market share with the products we have developed in our own R&D Design Center.
Our mid-term goal is to contribute to the reduction of the current deficit by increasing the share of our exports in the total turnover and to introduce new products, developed with innovation based on the domestic R&D domestic production philosophy, to world markets.
